CARLO DOMENICONI: FACES WORLDS reverse glass painting
January 6, 2024 - January 27, 2024

Carlo Domeniconi has been exploring reverse glass painting since the 1980s, following earlier experiments with acetate sheets. The layered colors on glass give his works a striking depth and energy. This technique requires the artist to reverse the usual painting process and, in some cases, work in mirror image.

For his recent works, Domeniconi found inspiration in a text by José Luis Borges, where a man realizes that his life’s work ultimately forms the image of his own face. This concept resonates in Domeniconi’s 2023 creations. His Janus heads symbolize beginnings and endings, as well as the inherent contradictions of human nature. His vibrant striped paintings represent infinity and the pathways of life, which he playfully refers to as his “sweat-of-my-brow fantasies.”
