This year’s Salon de Printemps at Galerie Sam Scherrer turns out to be a pas de deux. The protagonists are Irene Weingartner and Gaudenz Signorell, two artists with a strong affinity for complex, experimental creative processes. As different as their works are, Irene Weingartner’s filigree webs of ink-drawn lines and Gaudenz Signorell’s atmospheric photographs complement each other beautifully.

Sight is the ideal way to perceive the world and perhaps the only way to experience its invisible aspects. In their pas de deux, the two artists make this primacy of the visual tangible. For Gaudenz Signorell, the photographic image serves the same purpose as Irene Weingartner’s drawings and cutouts: they act as ciphers for emotions, moods, memories, and sentiments. Their artworks invite us to engage with our personal visual and life experiences as well as the power of our imagination.
