Almost all of the subjects Corinne Güdemann paints are based on her own photographs. She typically combines several photographic perspectives into a single composition, developing an image that she finds visually compelling. This process begins with drawing and is then further refined through a technique of layered glazing.

Looking at the preparatory sketch for Alpenrose, one can see a delicate line that tentatively captures her initial perception of the scene. It is noteworthy that the small shrub, which occupies a central position in the sketch, has been shifted slightly to the left in the final painting. This subtle asymmetry creates greater tension and a heightened sense of dynamism, enriching the visual narrative by naturally guiding the viewer’s gaze from the alpine rose towards the figures in the upper right-hand section of the composition.
