For nearly thirty years, Jan Czerwinski has investigated landscape as a cultural and temporal phenomenon. His work emerges from field studies, sketches, photographs, and archival research, producing hybrid topographies that occupy a space between realism and abstraction. By combining empirical observation with subjective perception, Czerwinski examines decay, erosion, and the human transformation and renewal of the environment. His images function as visual thought experiments, situating shifting habitats within a critical framework of space and time.
